He also brings up his intermittent beef with Kanye West.
Drake sent a shout-out to Taylor Swift in his unexpected new EP, "Scary Hours 3."
Today, November 17, the Canadian musician released the six-track album, which comes after the releases of "Scary Hours 2" in 2021 and "Scary Hours" in 2018. His eighth and most current studio album, "For All the Dogs," was only released six weeks ago.
Drake compliments Swift on "Red Button," the first song off "Scary Hours 3," and mentions his sales record (hear the song below).
"The only n**** that I ever rated is Taylor Swift; the only one that could make me drop the album a little later," the bar reads. "I treat the rest of you like you never made it/Leave your label devastated/I never hated you even when you pad the stats, period."
In another part of the song, Drake raps about his on-again, off-again feud with Kanye West, saying, "Every time Yeezy called for a truce, I thought we were going to finally work things out and start levitating, but then I realized that it was all premeditated."
The song "Her Loss" by Drake and 21 Savage dethroned Swift's "Midnights" from the top of the US and UK album charts precisely one year ago. In 2018, Swift's record for the most Spotify streams was surpassed by Drake.
Although it was stated in 2016 that the two had been collaborating, no real cooperation has materialized to date. Swift and Drake, however, are rumored to have been pals for more than ten years.
After "For All The Dogs" was released, Drake declared he was going to take a hiatus from recording music in order to prioritize his health.
But he clarified in a "Scary Hours 3" promo, saying, "I feel no need to appease anybody." I feel so confidence in the body of work that I recently released that, even though I'm not really into the very long disappearances for the sake of mystery, I could go disappear for, like, six months, a year, or two years.
In the end, though, I'm experiencing something that I haven't possibly felt since, perhaps, 'If You're Reading This,' where I feel like I'm high. I feel as though I'm just existing in that frame of mind.
"I did those songs in the last five days," he went on. On the night when "For All the Dogs" dropped, I didn't have a single bar written down for those songs. It's not as though I'm taking up where someone left off. You know, this is just naturally occurring. Who am I to oppose it, anyway?
Drake and 21 Savage, meanwhile, are nominated for multiple Grammy Awards in 2024 after the former decided to stop boycotting the event and submitted "Her Loss" for review. Swift, on the other hand, is entered in six categories, including Record of the Year ('Anti-Hero') and Album of the Year ('Midnights').
The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California is scheduled to host the 67th Grammy Awards on February 4.
