James Harden was detained in Texas on suspicion of illegal weapons.

According to court documents, Cleveland Cavaliers player James Harden was detained early on Saturday morning in Houston, Texas, and charged with a misdemeanor count of unlawfully carrying a weapon.

The 36-year-old NBA guard was allegedly discovered carrying a weapon inside his car at around 3:41 a.m., according to the authorities. The charge was allegedly brought about by the gun being in plain sight and not being carried in a holster. Later, Harden admitted that he was the owner of the firearm.

Harden was arrested, sent to the Harris County Jail, and then freed upon paying a $100 bond. He is expected to appear in court on June 22 to handle the misdemeanor charge, according to court filings.

The Cleveland Cavaliers acknowledged in a statement that they were aware of the incident and are gathering more details.

"The Cleveland Cavaliers are gathering further information after learning of James Harden's arrest this morning. We will keep an eye on developments as they become available and are in communication with James and his attorney," the group stated.

At the time of reporting, neither Harden nor his representatives had made any public remarks regarding the circumstances leading up to the traffic stop.

After joining the Cavaliers earlier this year, Harden, who just finished his 17th NBA season, was a vital member of the team. With three All-Star appearances and a reputation as one of the most prolific scorers of his generation, the former NBA Most Valuable Player continues to be one of the league's most decorated players.

As the judicial proceedings continue, more information about the case is expected to emerge. Until then, the claims are still before the court, and Harden is assumed innocent unless proven guilty.
