After winning Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals 94-90 over the San Antonio Spurs, the New York Knicks ended a championship drought that had lasted more than 50 years and secured a 4-1 series triumph.

Millions of supporters who have waited 53 years to see the Knicks return to the top of the basketball world are celebrating the team's first NBA triumph since 1973 and its third championship overall.

Jalen Brunson led the way, giving a legendary performance when his team most needed him. New York overcame another double-digit deficit and won the championship thanks to the Knicks star's amazing 45 points, which included a commanding period in the fourth quarter. Because of his valiant efforts during the series, Brunson was rightfully voted the NBA Finals MVP.

During their championship run, the Knicks demonstrated incredible fortitude by overcoming sizable deficits in each of their four Finals triumphs. A team that refused to allow history to repeat itself was characterized by their never-give-up mindset.

With emerging sensation Victor Wembanyama finishing Game 5 with 19 points and 14 rebounds, the Spurs' Finals presence signaled a bright future. San Antonio's youthful core is anticipated to continue to be a significant force in the NBA for many years to come, despite the setback.

As soon as the last buzzer sounded, jubilation broke out back in New York City. Chanting and applauding one of the most poignant moments in the franchise's history, fans poured into the streets. An enormous victory parade celebrating the team is anticipated, and preparations are already under way.
