The street is close to Tupac's 1990s residence.
Tupac Shakur Way is the new name for a street in Oakland, California, in memory of the late artist.
The disputed road is located near Tupac's former residence in the city, on MacArthur Boulevard.
The location saw a formal renaming ceremony that was attended by several Bay Area hip-hop icons, including MC Hammer, E-40, Money-B, and Too Short, in addition to members of Shakur's family.
Sekyiwa "Set" Shakur, the sister of Tupac, addressed the assembled audience, saying, "Let his spirit live on the rest of these years in these streets and in your hearts."
He was the truest rapper of all time. E-40 continued, "He was incredibly intelligent and a triple threat—a poet, a rapper, and a movie star. "He composed uplifting songs for women, like 'Dear Mama' and 'Brenda's Got a Baby,' to help them feel better about themselves." See his entire speech down below.
Tupac was "hands down, the greatest rapper ever, there's not even a question of that," according to MC Hammer.
Duane "Keffe D" Davis entered a not guilty plea to Tupac's 1996 murder last week (November 2). He was charged with open murder with the use of a deadly weapon and gang enhancement after his arrest on September 29.
A few days after being shot on September 7, 1996, Shakur passed away at the age of 25 on September 13, 1996. For almost thirty years, the identity of his killer has remained a mystery.
The rapper was attacked in Las Vegas while traveling to a nightclub with Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight after the Mike Tyson-Bruce Seldon bout at the MGM Grand.
A white Cadillac approached the couple's car from the passenger side, and 14 rounds were fired by an anonymous shooter. Shakur was struck four times before succumbing to his wounds.
"I never thought Keefe D would get arrested," Suge Knight stated to TMZ last month. "I also don't want him to be arrested."
Knight stated he didn't think he would be summoned to testify in any future trial when asked if he would do so.
"For what purpose would I take the stand to testify on behalf of someone?" he said. "One thousand out of ten. I'm not going. I refuse to testify. Nothing like that garbage.
